The Bharatiya Janata Party announced that the party’s prime ministerial
candidate Narendra Modi would contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from
Varanasi. Arvind Kejriwal is most likely to contest Lok Sabha Election against
Mr. Modi in Varanasi. AAP leader Manish Sisodia said that “If Modi contests
from Varanasi, then we have almost decided that Arvind Kejriwal will be pitted
against him (Modi). The Political Affairs Committee will decide asap.”
Arvind
Kejriwal says that he has not yet decided to contest against the BJP’s
PM candidate Narendra Modi. Varanasi is likely to see a triangular contest
among AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal, BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi and Quami
Ekta Dal (QED) candidate Mukhtar Ansari for the first time in Lok Sabha polls
instead of bipolar fights seen in the past. In 2009, Murli Manohar Joshi
defeated BSP candidate Mukhtar Ansari by a margin of 17,211 votes.
The total voters in Varanasi are 1609460 out of which 902969 are male and
706410 are female. Varanasi is comprised of muslims, brahmins, jatavs, dalits
and patels. In Varanasi, Muslim community has a solid 3-4 lakh voters. As an
alternate to BSP, Congress and SP, Muslims are looking towards AAP as muslims
feel cheated by all political parties. Arvind Kejriwal has created a special
bonding with the Dalit community. Arvind Kejriwal has promised to fight for
Dalit issues and exploitation. If everything goes well, Arvind Kejriwal can
defeat Narendra Modi from Varanasi.
AAP leaders are in favor that Kejriwal should fight against Modi in
Varanasi. Kejriwal is expected to address AAP rally in Varanasi on March 23 and
a formal announcement will come at a party rally. Today, Kejriwal said that the
party has not decided upon who will contest against Narendra Modi from
Varanasi, but AAP will field a strong candidate against Modiji. AAP leader
Arvind Kejriwal also asserted that Kumar Vishwas will defeat Congress Vice
President Rahul Gandhi from Amethi. Arvind Kejriwal today tweeted “Many people
asking me – “will i contest against Modi ji?” I will talk on this issue in
today’s rally at Bangalore.”
